Hyundai Ioniq 5 N vs. Tesla Model 3 Performance: A Comprehensive Comparison
Since its initial debut, Hyundai’s latest electric performance car, the 2025 Ioniq 5 N, has been turning heads in the automotive world. But how does it stack up against the well-established Tesla Model 3 Performance? Sofyan from Redline Reviews took the time to test drive both vehicles to find out.
Power and Performance
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N comes standard with all-wheel drive and packs a punch with 601 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. It also offers a unique feature called N Grin Boost, providing an additional 10-second power surge that brings horsepower up to 641 and torque to 568. After a day at the racetrack, the Ioniq 5 N can fast charge from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
On the other hand, the Tesla Model 3 Performance delivers 510 horsepower and an estimated 546 lb-ft of torque. While it has less power overall, it boasts a remarkable 0-60 mph time of just 2.9 seconds. The Tesla Model 3 Performance is often regarded as the benchmark for affordable electric performance vehicles. Tesla focuses on providing quick acceleration and ease of use, even if that means less engagement with driver feedback.
Driving Experience
Rob from Redline Reviews feels that the Ioniq 5 N offers a more comfortable ride compared to his Model 3 Performance. "In comfort mode, it is noticeably more comfortable than my car. The steering is less precise, but it offers a smooth ride similar to a small SUV," said Rob.
Switching to a more dynamic, sportier N mode reveals a playful side to the Ioniq 5 N. Rob was particularly taken with the simulated gear-shifting and enhanced power output, although he initially described the artificial engine sounds as "stupid." After spending more time with the vehicle, he admitted that the visceral experience of shifting power indeed adds a layer of excitement.
The Ioniq 5 N clocked an impressive 0-60 mph time of 3.06 seconds with N Grin Boost activated. Rob acknowledged the importance of sound in enhancing the driving experience, saying, “The visceral experience, that’s what Hyundai gives you. The sound, and the actual feeling of changing power as it shifts. That’s great.”
Handling and Comfort
While the Ioniq 5 N offers an engaging driving experience, the Tesla Model 3 Performance continues to shine in terms of handling. "In terms of handling, the Model 3 Performance has amazing road manners. The steering is quick, sharp, and direct. The suspension stays flat and absorbs bumps efficiently, and there’s not a single squeak or rattle," Sofyan observed.
The Model 3 also offers better front-end visibility and a more ergonomic seating position, making long drives less tiring. Its seats are notably more comfortable than those of the Ioniq 5 N, although the stiffer suspension can be a downside for some.
Conclusion
While the Tesla Model 3 Performance may have an edge in acceleration and handling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N offers a unique and thrilling driving experience thanks to its N Grin Boost and visceral sound dynamics. Despite its lower power, the Model 3 feels incredibly fast due to its lighter weight.
Both vehicles have their strengths and cater to different types of drivers. For those seeking raw performance and quick acceleration, the Tesla Model 3 Performance remains the go-to choice. But for those looking for an engaging and visceral drive, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N delivers a unique package that’s hard to ignore—though it does come with a higher price tag.
"My final take? While the Hyundai provides a better driving experience, the $10,000 higher starting MSRP makes it less appealing to me," Sofyan concluded.

Wow! the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N seems like beast!! That N Grin Boost feature sounds super fun!! I wanna drive one NOW!!!
Tesla still king!! Dont care about stupid sound effects in Hyundai. Model 3 Perfomance best car. End of story. Next!
intersting comparison. Ioniq 5 N has more horsepower but Tesla wins at acceleration. Always good to know these details.
So we’re paying extra $10,000 for some fake engine sounds and a fancy name for a power boost? Hyundai is really milking it, huh? 😂
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is like a prime steak, but just a bit more expensive. Worth every penny if you ask me.
But can it make you feel better about your life choices tho? 😂
Im with Vallen! The extra features are totally worth it. Tesla is good but Hyundai’s stepping up!
wow, 641 horse! Hyundai really pack a punch! Tesla who? lol
Tesla still better, Craig. u should try it first.
Yeah Craig, horse power is not everything. Handling matters too!
I dont get why people care so much about car specs. Just get one that gets you from A to B! all same to me
I love the part where it says ‘visceral experience.’ Haha, makes it sound like a roller coaster instead of a car!
The tesla model 3 performence is way overhyped. I don’t understand why people are crazy about it. Hyundai has way better features.
No way Tracy! Tesla is the future. Hyundai just trying to catch up.

Same here, Tyler. These cars are for rich people.
