FYI: Tesla’s ambitious expansion of the Semi factory is moving at a swift pace, indicated by the rapid build-up of its structural cornerstone.
Tesla Semi Factory Reaches Construction Milestone
Construction progress at Tesla’s Semi factory is surging ahead, with recent updates highlighting significant developments. A recent drone video reveals that the site has its first complete corner constructed using steel beams and columns. Observers of Tesla’s operations in Nevada, such as Gigafactory Nevada drone enthusiast Zanegler, have documented this progress, noting the steel framework wrapping around the factory’s Northeast corner and steadily advancing along the Eastern side, heading southwards.
Site Developments and Operations
The footage showcases multiple loading bays incorporated into the building’s structure, designed for efficient raw material delivery. Interestingly, a solitary Tesla Semi was spotted beside the expansion area, leading to speculation about its involvement in a potential media shoot.
Initially launched in January, the Semi plant at the Giga Nevada site marks a strategic move by Tesla to establish dedicated facilities for producing their electric class 8 truck and 4680 battery cells. Once completed, these expansions aim to provide around 6,500 additional full-time jobs, signifying a substantial boost to the local economy.
Production Goals and Future Plans
Tesla is targeting an annual production rate of 50,000 Tesla Semis once full-scale manufacturing commences. While production at the Semi plant is slated to begin late next year, with customer deliveries expected in early 2026, the company has proactively supplied a few early units to select businesses. PepsiCo, one of Tesla’s initial partners, now operates a fleet of 86 Tesla Semis after receiving their first delivery in 2022. Other clients, including DHL, Walmart, and Martin Brower, are also testing and implementing these vehicles, underscoring Tesla’s endeavor to expand globally.
Recently, Tesla’s Semi Program Manager, Dan Priestley, showcased the Semi at the IAA conference in Munich, Germany, where CEO Elon Musk reiterated the company’s vision for worldwide availability of the Semi.
