FYI: Tesla’s latest construction at its Gigafactory in Nevada is setting the stage for massive production capabilities, particularly for its Semi trucks.
Tesla Semi Factory Prepares for an Avalanche of Concrete
Tesla’s ambitious Semi truck production facility at Gigafactory Nevada is progressing rapidly, with significant advancements visible in a recent update. This year, Tesla has been dedicatedly building a specialized plant specifically for the Semi, and recent reports reveal that preparations are in full swing to lay an enormous volume of concrete.
Major Construction Milestones
An update from Zanegler, a Giga Nevada observer and avid Tesla Semi supporter, highlights the tremendous strides made in recent weeks. Footage from the site showcases various stages of the construction process, with truss rods being installed on numerous steel beams and multiple footings ready to support the structure.
Zanegler refers to the construction site as a “concrete jungle,” emphasizing the sheer scale of the operation. He explains that each significant footing will require 55 yards of concrete, summing up to a total of 20,000 yards for these footings alone. Overall, the entire project will utilize a staggering one million yards of concrete upon completion.
Details Behind the Massive Concrete Usage
While it remains unclear whether the figures refer to cubic yards of concrete, the magnitude of the project indisputably points to substantial material usage. This level of concrete is essential to support the future infrastructure, anticipating the large-scale production envisioned for the Tesla Semi.
Alongside these concrete preparations, the update video features scenes of a BZI Telehandler manoeuvring horizontal truss rods onto vertical steel beams. Steel beams started arriving at the site early last month, and steady progress has been observed since then.

Timeline and Future Outlook
Tesla began the expansion of Giga Nevada specifically for the Semi truck production in January. The aims are set high with production slated for the latter half of 2025, and initial customer deliveries expected in early 2026. That said, Tesla already has some units out in the market, delivered to notable companies like PepsiCo, Costco, Martin Brower, and Walmart.
Additionally, Tesla has been ramping up production at its existing Giga Nevada facility, with at least 50 Semi units currently spotted on site. Earlier this month, Dan Priestley, Senior Manager of the Tesla Semi program, visited the site to share glimpses of the progress. Tesla is also gearing up for an international presence, having displayed a Semi unit at the IAA convention in Munich, Germany.
