FYI: Tesla is set to introduce a dedicated streaming app for SiriusXM in its upcoming software update, enhancing the entertainment options for its vehicle lineup.
Tesla to Integrate SiriusXM Streaming in Upcoming Software Update
Tesla is gearing up to release a dedicated streaming app for SiriusXM in a future software update, as revealed by a fleeting post from the satellite radio company. This announcement was briefly visible on SiriusXM’s Canada website over the weekend before it was swiftly removed, likely to minimize premature publicity.
The new integration will enable owners of Tesla’s Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck to access SiriusXM’s streaming channels, adding to the current capabilities of the Model S and Model X, which already support satellite radio due to built-in receivers. While Model S and X users enjoy SiriusXM’s satellite service, this will mark the first time the streaming service will be available to Tesla’s entire lineup.
A New Way to Listen
The SiriusXM Canada blog post also outlined how to access a free trial of the app, even for Teslas that lack satellite radio equipment. The service primarily manages its operations through satellite and its non-satellite streaming service, which hasn’t been directly available in Tesla vehicles until now.
The post, picked up by Not a Tesla App, disclosed that the free trial would include the SiriusXM 360L package. This package presents a robust selection of live sports channels, on-demand shows, and streaming channels. Just like Tesla’s other streaming apps, accessing these channels would necessitate a Premium Connectivity subscription.
Subscription Packages
Typically, the SiriusXM 360L package costs $21.99 per month for the All Access package or $16.99 for the Select package. However, the now-removed article hinted that Tesla users might be required to subscribe to the $28.80/month Platinum package to enjoy the full range of features. This premium subscription not only includes additional streaming capabilities but also allows users to stream content on other devices such as computers, smartphones, and tablets.
Expectations are that the SiriusXM app will debut with a complimentary one-month trial of the Platinum package, offering users a taste of the extensive SiriusXM content.
Background
Tesla first started offering three-month free trials of the SiriusXM satellite service to Model S and X vehicles back in 2020, giving users access to over 150 satellite channels. At that time, it was already suggested that Tesla had been working on integrating SiriusXM’s capabilities for an extended period, and the recent news signifies an expansion of Tesla’s onboard entertainment options.
