Lucid Motors continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle (EV) technology with its latest 2025 Lucid Air Pure model, which the company confidently claims is the most efficient production car to date. Newly introduced by Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson, the Air Pure model now achieves an impressive five miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of energy, an improvement from the previous 4.1 miles per kWh. This advancement has resulted in a groundbreaking 146 MPGe EPA rating.
The Air Pure remains Lucid’s most affordable model, yet it boasts an extended range of up to 430 miles. This remarkable efficiency is realized with a modest 84 kWh battery pack, coupled with a sophisticated heat pump system for the first time. Additionally, adjustments have been applied to other models in Lucid’s lineup, such as the Hyper Sedan Air Sapphire.
“The advancements we’ve introduced across the Lucid Air lineup leading up to 2025 further solidify our leadership position,” said Peter Rawlinson. “Lucid Air embodies our relentless approach to optimization, enabling the Air Pure to use less power to get from point A to point B every trip than any other vehicle.”
Earlier discussions with Peter Rawlinson revealed the ultimate goal for Lucid: achieving an efficiency milestone of 6.2 mpk or 10 kilometers per kilowatt-hour. To meet this ambitious target, Lucid has engineered many of its components in-house, incorporating a 900-volt architecture that allows for the miniaturization of key parts. For instance, the Air’s electric motor is one-third the size of Tesla’s but offers the same or greater power output.
Despite the significant improvements, Lucid has managed to keep the Air Pure’s starting price stable at $69,900, with the Touring and Grand Touring models priced at $78,900 and $110,900, respectively. Our real-world tests have consistently surpassed Lucid’s range and efficiency expectations, suggesting that the new Air Pure might be even closer to Rawlinson’s efficiency “Holy Grail” than initially apparent. We eagerly anticipate testing the new Air Pure’s range.
Looking ahead, Lucid is also planning to compete more directly with the likes of Tesla Model 3 and Model Y by developing a smaller and more affordable vehicle.
