Chevrolet’s Equinox EV has been a hot topic for delivering a competent electric vehicle (EV) experience at an attractive price point. Unfortunately, the much-anticipated $35,000 base model did not materialize for the 2024 model year. The most affordable variant available was the Equinox 2LT, starting at $41,900, while the 1LT model remained conspicuously absent.
What’s New for 2025?
The landscape for the Equinox EV will shift significantly in 2025. Chevrolet has revamped the trim structure, phasing out the numeric designations like 3LT or 3RS. This time, the trims will be simplified to just two model grades: LT and RS. This initially seems muddling but offers more flexibility and customization for buyers through various option packages instead of fixed trim levels.
Equinox EV Pricing Revisited
Revised Pricing and Features
When first announced in 2023, Chevrolet had plans to price the Equinox EV just below $30,000. By 2024, this target shifted to under $35,000. However, the actual base model, the 1LT, never made its debut, with the cheapest model being the 2LT, priced from $43,295.
The 2025 base Equinox LT starts at $34,995 and includes standard features such as a urethane steering wheel, manual seat adjustments, and cloth seats. While it may appear slightly downgraded, it includes more than what would have been offered on the missing 1LT model from the previous year.
To enhance the vehicle’s feature set, Chevrolet now offers several optional packages. The Comfort Package, for instance, adds amenities like a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The Active Safety Package includes features like rear traffic alert and traffic sign recognition. Adding both the Comfort and Active Safety II packages brings the LT model’s price to $36,995.
RS Model Enhancements
The RS model already includes the options mentioned above but opts for a sportier design with darker accents over brighter ones found on the LT. Moving forward, both LT and RS trims can be further enhanced with the Convenience Package II and Active Safety Package 3. Active Safety Package 3 introduces Super Cruise, while the Convenience Package II adds larger 21-inch wheels and a power passenger seat, aligning these with earlier 3LT and 3RS trims. Base RS models will kick off at $44,795, with fully loaded versions peaking at $47,890. Comparatively, the highest-spec LT models will be slightly less expensive at $46,395.
Power and Performance Boost
The updated Equinox EVs get a notable power increase for the 2025 model year. Front-wheel-drive variants now deliver 220 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, an improvement from the previous year’s 213 horsepower and 236 lb-ft. All-wheel-drive models receive a boost to 300 horsepower and 355 lb-ft, up from 288 horsepower and 333 lb-ft. The effect of these enhancements on performance metrics and range remains to be seen.
Final Thoughts
The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV is set to offer a more straightforward and customizable buying experience. Consumers can pick between the LT or RS trims and then tailor the vehicle with specific packages. This strategy could help achieve the elusive $35,000 entry-level model while providing clarity on what comes with each version. Combine these changes with the updated powertrain, and Chevrolet seems poised to offer one of its most compelling EVs yet.
