Tesla Offers $1,000 Discount to Upgrade from Enhanced Autopilot to Full Self-Driving with New Vehicle Purchase
Tesla is extending an exclusive offer to its owners, inviting them to upgrade their Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) to Full Self-Driving (FSD) with a special $1,000 discount on new vehicle purchases. This limited-time promotion, detailed in recent emails sent to Tesla owners, is aimed at encouraging upgrades while promoting the company’s advanced autonomous driving features.
According to a screenshot shared by Sawyer Merritt on X, Tesla owners who decide to purchase a new vehicle and upgrade to FSD Supervised will receive a $1,000 discount off their new order. Additionally, those who complete their vehicle delivery by August 15 will be rewarded with three months of free Supercharging. All deliveries must be completed by September 30 to qualify for the promotion.
### Transition from Enhanced Autopilot to Full Self-Driving
The move aligns with Tesla’s ongoing strategy to phase out Enhanced Autopilot and focus on the broader deployment of FSD Supervised. In April, Tesla removed the Enhanced Autopilot option from its U.S. order configurator and adjusted the price of FSD Supervised to $8,000 for a one-time purchase or $99 per month on a subscription basis. The transition was further incentivized by offering EAP owners an upgrade to FSD for $2,000, a fee which is now waived under the current promotion.
### International Expansion and FSD Demos
Tesla has also been actively demonstrating FSD Supervised to new buyers and is preparing to introduce the system internationally, starting with China. Recent reports indicate Tesla is testing FSD Supervised on 10 vehicles in China, following the country’s tentative approval of the system. This international rollout underscores Tesla’s ambition to expand its autonomous driving capabilities globally.
### Upcoming Robotaxi Platform and Shareholder Meeting Insights
In related developments, Tesla had planned to unveil its Robotaxi platform in August but has postponed the event. While a new date has yet to be announced, it’s anticipated that further details may emerge during Tesla’s Q2 2024 earnings call. Additionally, during the company’s recent Annual Shareholder Meeting, CEO Elon Musk confirmed that owners would be allowed to transfer their FSD package to a new vehicle for one more quarter, aligning with the current promotion deadline.
### A Summary of the Proposition
Tesla’s latest offer provides a compelling incentive for owners considering upgrading their autonomous driving technology. By upgrading from Enhanced Autopilot to Full Self-Driving and purchasing a new vehicle, owners not only benefit from a substantial discount but also gain access to Tesla’s most advanced driving technology.
