FYI: Ford Introduces its First OTA Performance Boost for Mustang Mach-E GT Owners
If you’re among the proud owners of a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT who enjoy leaving your car in Unbridled mode for those exhilarating acceleration sounds, there’s exciting news. Ford has officially rolled out its first over-the-air (OTA) performance upgrade, promising even more torque and driving pleasure.
### Ford’s Downloadable Performance Upgrade
The Blue Oval has introduced its inaugural OTA performance enhancement for the Mustang Mach-E GT, offering an additional 100 pound-feet of torque via a straightforward download. This upgrade can be easily triggered using your smartphone through the FordPass App for a fee of just $995.
### The Numbers Game
With this latest upgrade, the Mustang Mach-E GT’s torque climbs to an impressive 700 pound-feet. While the vehicle’s maximum horsepower remains unchanged at 480, the increase in torque significantly boosts its acceleration. The Mach-E GT now boasts a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds, shaving half a second off its previous record. It even beats the Tesla Model Y Performance by 0.2 seconds and the Porsche Macan 4S Electric by 0.6 seconds. As a bonus, it also gains an additional mile in EPA-rated range, totaling 280 miles versus the Model Y Performance’s 279 miles.
### Value Proposition: Bang for Your Buck
Charging $995 for a downloadable performance boost may seem steep to some, but it offers great value compared to upgrading a traditional gas-powered car. Not only does this modification provide tangible performance improvements, but it also preserves the vehicle’s warranty—a combined benefit rarely achievable with gas-powered vehicles at a similar cost.
### Others Join the OTA Bandwagon
Ford is not the first automaker to monetize software upgrades. Tesla offers a $2,000 “acceleration boost” for the Model 3, Polestar provides a $1,195 performance software upgrade for the Polestar 2, and Mercedes charges EQS owners $2,950 to trim their zero-to-60 mph time by 0.9 seconds. These offers underline a growing trend among EV manufacturers capitalizing on OTA upgrades to enhance vehicle performance post-purchase.
### The Future of EV Performance
Automakers have adeptly leveraged software to unlock additional income streams, particularly as the aftermarket EV performance industry is still in its infancy. These OTA upgrades provide immediate performance gains while meeting the stringent reliability and safety standards expected from manufacturers.
### Ready for More Torque?
For Mustang Mach-E GT owners eager to experience even more thrilling performance, this new upgrade is just a few taps away. Open the FordPass App, prepare your credit card, and get ready to ignite your inner speed demon. Your vehicle will perform neck-snapping feats akin to a 2008 Ferrari F430 Scuderia but with the modern reliability of an EV.
