FYI: The South Pasadena Police Department has declared Tesla vehicles as the best choice for their fleet, already yielding immense performance and cost-saving benefits within their first year of service. An update is expected on July 29, 2024.
South Pasadena PD Raves About Tesla Vehicles for Police Use
The South Pasadena Police Department has recently released a video detailing the reasons why they believe Tesla vehicles have become the optimal choice for their fleet. Moving beyond just a viable option, the department asserts that Teslas are now the best solution for police use. Furthermore, they have teased an exciting update slated for July 29, 2024.
Unmatched Performance and Minimal Maintenance
According to statements from the South Pasadena PD, Tesla Model Ys offer superior performance and drastically lower maintenance costs compared to traditional vehicles. Impressively, throughout their first year of service, the Model Y fleet incurred no maintenance costs whatsoever.
“We got a much better performing car that costs significantly less to maintain and fuel. Our admin fleet in the first year had absolutely no maintenance associated with it,” noted the department.
Fuel Costs and Energy Efficiency
One of the standout benefits highlighted by the department is the reduced energy costs. Compared to the rising prices of gasoline in California, the electricity needed to power the Teslas is far more economical.
“Probably the biggest cost savings variable is cost of energy. It’s way less than what we’re paying in California for a gallon of gas. So, when you look at the entire package, it not only became a viable solution. It became the best solution as well.”
Technology and Collaboration
South Pasadena PD is leading by example in the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). Recently, the department teamed up with Standard Fleet and UP.FIT to streamline EV management for police fleets. This collaboration aims to leverage tech solutions to enhance dispatch, charging, maintenance, analytics, and keyless access for officers.
“Adopting electric vehicles for police work presents a unique set of challenges along with opportunities to better serve our community with a cleaner, more reliable, and higher performance police fleet at lower costs over the long term. Standard Fleet technology gives us mobile access to all of our EVs to enhance our operations from dispatch, charging, maintenance, and analytics to keyless access for officers coming on- and off-duty,” shared Sergeant Tony Abdalla of the South Pasadena PD.
Looking Forward
As the South Pasadena Police Department continues to innovate and embrace electric mobility, they are setting a powerful example for other law enforcement agencies. Their early success with Tesla vehicles underscores the potential benefits of transitioning to an all-electric police fleet.
