### Xiaomi Unveils SU7 Ultra Electric Sedan: Aiming for Nürburgring Glory
Smartphone behemoth Xiaomi has recently showcased a prototype of its intensely upgraded electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra. This beastly version of their first car, the SU7, packs a punch with an astonishing three-motor powertrain delivering a combined 1,527 horsepower. Xiaomi claims this enables the car to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 1.97 seconds and reach top speeds of 217 mph. Built to shock and awe, the SU7 Ultra is slated for sales in 2025.
### Nürburgring Aspirations and Record-Breaking Dreams
As part of its rigorous developmental phase, the SU7 Ultra is being tested on the grueling tracks of Germany’s revered Nürburgring. Xiaomi has confirmed plans to set an official lap time in October. To provide perspective, the current lap record for electric production vehicles stands at a blistering 7 minutes and 5.298 seconds, held by the 1,914-hp Rimac Nevera. Porsche’s pre-production Taycan Turbo GT, sporting 1,092 hp, narrowly missed this mark with a time of 7:07.55, albeit without its rear seats.
### Engineering Marvel: Light and Aerodynamic
One of the standout features of the SU7 Ultra is its significant weight reduction, shedding about 1,100 pounds by extensively using carbon fiber components. The projected weight of the production model is a svelte less-than-4,400 pounds. Besides its remarkable power-to-weight ratio, the SU7 Ultra boasts an advanced aerodynamics package that reportedly generates over 4,700 pounds of downforce, crucial for securing that coveted Nürburgring record.
### XTREME Battery Options: Beyond the Basics
The standard SU7, which debuted last year, currently comes equipped with a 101-kWh battery. However, Xiaomi has revealed plans to introduce larger battery options, likely in the range of 132 to 150 kWh, potentially offering their mightiest units in the SU7 Ultra. These upgrades would ensure that the car not only packs the power but also sustains it over demanding track conditions.
### Market Competitiveness and Consumer Response
Priced starting at about $30,000 for its single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version with 295 hp, the regular SU7 has seen rapid market acceptance in China. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant, delivering 664 hp, is available for roughly $41,500. Such aggressive pricing, which Xiaomo CEO Lei Jun acknowledged results in financial losses per unit sold, caused the entire 2024 allocation to sell out within 24 hours.
### Conclusion: Ready to Dominate?
Xiaomi’s leap from smartphones to high-performance electric vehicles marks a daring and ambitious venture. The SU7 Ultra, with its phenomenal horsepower, lightweight build, and cutting-edge aerodynamics, could very well break new ground at the Nürburgring this October.
